Queen Elizabeth's coffin, covered by the Royal Standard flag and with the Imperial State Crown placed on a cushion on top alongside a wreath of flowers, is now lying in state in London's Westminster hall as thousands line up in the UK capital to pay their respects to the late monarch. For 23 hours per day, visitors will be able to pay their respects. Tickets will be issued to VIPs for designated time slots. The government has warned that people could face 30-hour waits to pay tribute to the Queen, the BBC reported.

The Westminster hall is the oldest building in Parliament and the only part of the ancient Palace of Westminster which survives in almost its original form. READ | Long lived the Queen. King Charles III, Princes William and Harry, and other senior royals followed on foot behind the coffin. A short service followed which was attended by senior politicians, including Prime Minister Liz Truss. Queen Elizabeth II, the UK’s longest-serving monarch, died on September 8 at the Balmoral Castle in Scotland. The funeral will be held September 19.
