District Attorney Jessica Gorman told the agency that Pearson was arrested after the victim apprehended a Lubbock Police Department officer.

Pearson's allegations were based on allegations that he punched a woman in the face multiple times and left here with visible injuries.
After Pearson was arrested and placed in a patrol car, the agency reported, he became angry that the victim had not been arrested and began kicking the cruiser's door.

When the officers opened the door and told Pearson to stop, he spat at them and continued to do so after arriving at the Lubbock County Detention Center.

Pearson was eventually found guilty by a jury of two counts of harassment of an official.
Gorman, who did not immediately respond to questions from Fox News Digital regarding the sentencing, asked the jury to "send a message" to Pearson and society when considering a number to attach to the sentence.
The prosecutor said Pearson would face a minimum of 25 years in prison because he was previously convicted of aggravated robbery and domestic violence.

Pearson's attorney, Jim Shaw, told jurors the conviction was for a "plain misdemeanor" that had gotten out of hand.
As it turned out, the jury hit Pearson with a 70-year prison sentence.

Gorman told KLBK-TV that someone wouldn't get a 70-year prison sentence for something like that if they've never run afoul of the law before.
"If you're going to live the life of crime, you're doing it among other criminals," she told the court, according to the CBS affiliate.
