MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): A number of residents of northern Balkh province say they are not satisfied with services at the gynecology and obstetrics department of the regional hospital in Mazar-i-Sharif because patients are not given proper care.
Muneza, a resident of Balkh, told Pajhwok Afghan News she brought her patient to the gynecology and obstetrics department two days ago.
She complained her relative needed a bed, but no one was admitting her. “The patient was provided bed and later operated upon after I raised a hue and cry.”
Another resident, Mir Ahmad, said doctors and nurses at the gynecology and obstetrics department did not pay necessary attention to patients.
His patient was admitted two days ago. “My patient is in severe pain even know, but doctors do not come to examine her. I wonder what to do. ”
He said the hospital also lacked medicines and relatives of patients had to buy medicines from the market.
Another relative of a patient, Rohullah, also said he was not happy with services at the obstetrics and gynecology department of the zonal hospital.
He said his patient was lying in the bed for the last three days, but her fate remained unknown. “Doctors are not of the same opinion, some say the patient needs operation and others say she does not need operation. ” He said he had to buy medicines from the market as the hospital pharmacy lacked medicines.
A number of other patients and their relatives made similar complaints and urged the relevant authorities to take serious measures to solve these problems.
However, the hospital’s head, Dr. Ghausuddin Anwari, told Pajhwok the 850-bedded regional hospital served people day and night and all their expenses were paid by the Red Cross office since last 10 months .
He argued it was not possible to take 100 percent care of all patients but they were trying to provide all necessary health services to the people.
About the availability of medicines in the hospital, Dr. Anwari said admitted patients were provided medicines free of cost. The medicines have been donated by Uzbekistan and Iran.
Besides Balkh, patients from neighboring provinces —Samangan, Faryab, Jawzjan and others are also brought to the regional hospital.
